About
Chiang Mai Zoo sits on Huay Kaew Road, just west of the university, and it's the city's go-to day out with kids. Opened in 1977, it was the first commercial zoo in northern Thailand, and it covers about 200 acres of hillside, so the tram is worth the small extra rather than walking it all. There's an aquarium on site too. Don't go for the pandas: Lin Hui died in 2023 and the panda house is no longer part of the ticket. Arrive early, before the afternoon heat sets in.
