Wat Pa Dara Phirom Phra Aram Luang

Mae Rim

About

Wat Pa Dara Phirom in Mae Rim is a royal temple named after Princess Dara Rasmi, the Lanna princess who married King Chulalongkorn, and it stands on land that was once part of her garden residence. It began as a forest-monk retreat, and the site was given to the temple in 1941. Most of what you see is newer and grand in scale: a 46 m long Lanna-style prayer hall finished in the early 2000s, a gold-topped, four-tiered mondop about 39 m tall, and a Chiang Tung-style shrine. It's an easy stop on the way up to Mae Rim's attractions and much calmer than the big city temples.
